We must continually identify, assess, report and control possible risks to the health and safety of ourselves, our co-workers, volunteers, contractors, our clients/residents and the public within the communities, which we operate. Reporting to the Hospitality Manager or Site Manager, Food Service Aides deliver client/resident meal services in a safe manner while following correct procedures for preparation, portioning, and serving of foods in accordance with posted menus and client/residents choice. Food Service Aides prepare food and beverages and provide choices to clients/residents in terms of selection and quantity of food while taking pride in food presentation and customer satisfaction. Educational and other Qualifications * Minimum Grade 10 * BC EMPLOYEES: Food Safe 1 (post July 29, 2013) or equivalent * ALBERTA EMPLOYEES: Food Safety Basic or equivalentKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner * Able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing so others can easily interpret and understand it fully * Exhibits an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally * Maintains an individual's dignity and self-worth during conversations * Excellent active listening skills * Demonstrates flexibility by changing routine to accommodate client/resident needsWork Experience * Institutional Food Service experience * Experience working with the elderly * Experience in basic food preparation * Delivers client/resident meal service in a safe manner following correct procedures for preparation, portioning, and serving of foods in accordance with posted menus and client/residents choice * Prepares food, including making sandwiches, salads, nourishments, cafeteria items and hot and cold * Provides choices to clients/residents in terms of selection and quantity of food, taking pride in food presentation and customer satisfaction * Prepares and cooks breakfast items (if applicable) * Maintains high standards by ensuring main kitchen, cafeteria, dining room and kitchenette areas are safe and kept clean and organized including but not limited to: set up, cleaning and sanitizing dining room tables, kitchen counters, equipment, cupboards, shelves, refrigerators, freezers, and floors * Washes all dishes and cookware according to established processes and procedures including returning items to their proper storage areas * Operates all equipment in safe manner, reporting all deficiencies to immediate supervisor * Adheres to food service sanitation and safety practices for food handling and hand washing procedures * Reports food items of doubtful quality and any unsafe conditions to immediate supervisor * Arranges, covers, labels, dates and stores leftovers and ensures all food items are rotated * Loads and unloads food supplies into storeroom, refrigerators and freezer * Responsible for stocking supplies in designated client/resident areas (unit kitchenettes) * Responsible for completing all audits including wash/rinse temperatures for dish machine and chemical concentrations for pot washing area * Responsible for posting daily menus in the client/resident dining rooms and cafeteria * Responsible for checking menu dining cards and diet lists and informing the Cooks of any changes * Responsible for reporting any concerns to immediate Supervisor * Works closely with all food service workers to ensure all daily tasks are completed * Demonstrates dependability by reporting to work on time and as scheduled * Adheres to all infection control practices and procedures * Ensures an environment and resources which nurture spirituality * Other related duties as assignedWork within GSS Standards of Safety and Care * Ensures that resources are being used effectively and efficiently and not wasted or misappropriated * Maintains confidentiality on issues related to resident/client and employee matters and GSS information * Pursues continual learning by participating in in-services and training/education programs * Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of GSS * Maintains a safe working culture by assessing and controlling possible health and safety risks * Adheres to all GSS policies and proceduresApply at: http://hrnet.gss.org Company: Good Samaritan Society Salary: $23.38 per hour Contract: PERMANENT
